Dance / Drama

Maui catches the sun

 

We participated in our syndicate production called "Maui catches the sun." 

We helped to chose some dance actions to go with the lyrics in the song "Slow down sun." We danced and acted and we were very brave when we performed in front of an audience. 

We were learning to:

• Use our knowledge of daily activities/chores to create movements
• Create and perform a movement phrase using locomotor and non-locomotor moves
• Discuss how facial expression, movement, and gesture can be used to create meaning

Play based learning

We read the book Clever Mr Brown.  Mr Brown made his own airplane and had to be creative for it to fly.  We created our own planes and tested them. 

Music

Music

This term we have been having fun playing on lots of different instruments in the music room. We have learnt how to identify the beat and play along with the music in time using the percussion instruments. We have also been learning how to play some chords on the ukulele. We have practiced singing songs and playing the ukulele at the same time and we persevered even when we found it a bit tricky to begin with. The students are working at the curriculum expectation for music.

Maths - Patterns

Learning Goal: to identify, make and continue patterns.

Arliyah, your next step is to identify patterns in number sequences.

Social Science

We wrote about who is in our family, what we do together, what we like to eat, celebrations and jobs.

We created a poster and learned about the similarities and differences of families in our class.  

Visual Art - Term 3

We looked at koru and kowhaiwhai patterns in picture books and practiced drawing them.

Then we visited the art gallery and learned more about Māori motifs.  

We created an artwork there by cutting out the shapes we saw and overlapping them.

We were inspired by the work of Reuben Paterson and created our own glitter art.

Maths - Term 3

Arliyah is learning to add by starting with the largest number.

Her next step is to do this with 2 digit numbers and without materials.

Strand Maths - Time

WALT: Measure time in a variety of contexts e.g, Days of the Week, Age, Fast / Slow

WALT: Tell the time to the hour and half hour using analogue clocks.

Play Based Learning

Science

Arliyah, you participated well in all the learning about the sun and how it affects the earth, people and animals.  

Writing - Term 2

Arliyah is learning to put full stops and capital letters in the right places and add detail to her writing.

P.E - Large Ball Skills

WALT:  Develop handling and control skills of a large ball using our hands with a partner and in small groups.

Perform rolling an object with control over distances.

Roll different objects with accuracy.

Addition and Subtraction

Arliyah is learning that the number of objects in a set stays the same regardless of spatial arrangement.

Te Reo Māori

WALT: Understand and say our mihi / pepeha including our name, the names of our parents and our school in Te Reo Māori.

All About Me

I like playing on the bars, playing on the tramp, playing Hatchimals with my Mum and Dad.

I don't like Pigney Pops that smell bad or hot peppers

I like apples, my favourite colour is purple.  My best friend is Eliya.

At school I like writing.

Writing - Term 1

Arliyah is working on re-reading her work so she knows what comes next and to check it makes sense.  Her next step is to add detail to her writing by thinking about - who, what, why, when, where.

Floating and Sinking

We Are Learning To:

Make a prediction and test our predictions.

Arliyah chose an object from the classroom.

- Asked a question; Will it sink or float?

- Made a hypothesis stating what he thought would happen

- Tested his hypothesis by placing the object in the water

- Observed what happened and reflected on the hypothesis

Number Knowledge

We are learning to make groups within 5.

We learned a game called 'Rocket'.  We got a counter if we could make 5 with 2 of our cards.  The first person to fill their rocket is the winner!
